Key to Successful Image Recognition
The transformation of picture to character (Optical Character Recognition or OCR) is an amazing technology. Here are some tips for optimal results:
Business Card Positioning
For best results, hold the card at a 45 degree angle in front of you. By default Contact Snapper will guide you through a landscape format but you can reorient your device for business cards in portrait mode.
Movement
Don't move. At close range, any movement will cause blurriness. Rest your elbows on a table or lean against something.
Camera Positioning and Focus
Position the lens parallel to the business card being photographed. Fit the entire document into the frame. Focus on the center of the business card. Make sure that the autofocus box locks on your business card.
Lighting
Proper lighting is the most important criteria to ensure successful recognition. Natural light is the best. Avoid shadows.
Check Your Picture
Your eyes can read more acutely than any OCR engine. Thus, if you can't clearly read the text in the picture, more than likely the OCR will not be able to convert it into text. In this case, take a new picture.
